There are two ways to bring a RaceBox session into LapBrain:

  • Sync a nearby RaceBox Mini S or RaceBox Micro over Bluetooth in the LapBrain mobile app.
  • Download a VBO file for an existing cloud session from the RaceBox website, then upload it to LapBrain from the mobile app or a browser.
tip

Bluetooth sync lives in the LapBrain mobile app. The web app can't connect directly to the device, but it can upload a VBO file downloaded from your RaceBox account.

Sync a nearby RaceBox over Bluetooth

A RaceBox records to its own memory while you ride. You don't keep your phone connected during the session. Leave it in your pocket and let the device log on its own.

When you're back in the paddock:

  1. Open the LapBrain app and tap Sync
  2. The first time, tap Allow Bluetooth and accept your phone's permission prompt. LapBrain uses Bluetooth only to talk to your RaceBox, never for location
  3. The app finds your RaceBox and connects over Bluetooth
  4. New outings download and upload to LapBrain automatically
  5. LapBrain splits the recording into separate sessions for you (one per outing) and processing begins right away

You can also start and stop recording, choose the recording rate, and control its stationary, GPS-fix, and battery-saving pauses from the connected screen. LapBrain recommends 25 Hz and both pause filters. Keep the 30-minute automatic shutdown off during an event so the next outing records automatically; turn it on to save battery when you are prepared to start recording again after a long stop.

After syncing, LapBrain can erase the synced sessions from the RaceBox once they are safely in the cloud. Your first sync asks what you prefer and can remember the choice. You can change it later under the saved RaceBox's Settings. The connected screen also has Erase all sessions for a deliberate full reset; that action can remove sessions you have not synced and asks for confirmation.

Upload an existing RaceBox cloud session

If the session is already in your RaceBox account:

  1. Sign in to the RaceBox web app and open My Sessions.
  2. Open the session you want to bring into LapBrain.
  3. Choose Download session, then VBO.
  4. In LapBrain, open Sessions, tap +, choose Choose files, and select the downloaded VBO file. On a computer you can drag the file onto the LapBrain window instead: the upload panel opens by itself, even when the Sessions panel is collapsed, and dropping the file on it starts the upload.

RaceBox offers default and Bike Mode VBO downloads. LapBrain accepts both. It also accepts sessions saved as No Track in RaceBox; LapBrain identifies the circuit and sets lap boundaries from the recorded GPS.

Sync automatically

Once you've synced a RaceBox at least once, you can turn on Sync automatically when nearby from the device's settings. After that, new outings are added to your Session Library on their own whenever the device is nearby and the app is open. If the battery is low, automatic syncing waits until it's charging.

If Erase synced sessions automatically is also on, background sync uses the same safety rule as a manual sync: the RaceBox is erased only after every downloaded session is safely in the cloud.

Models that sync directly

  • RaceBox Mini S: recommended; connects over Bluetooth and shows its battery level while connected
  • RaceBox Micro: connects over Bluetooth and shows its input voltage while connected
warning

The plain RaceBox Mini has no onboard recording to sync directly with LapBrain. If its sessions appear in your RaceBox account, download them as VBO files from the RaceBox website and upload those files instead. Make sure your firmware is up to date in the official RaceBox app before your first Bluetooth sync.

Channels and track maps

A RaceBox recording includes GPS and motion data without a separate channel setup. Clear sky view helps GPS quality. LapBrain can provide track matching and corner analysis when the recording is clear enough and it recognizes the circuit.

What to do next

  1. See your first session: see Your First Session for what happens after a sync or upload.
  2. Wait for processing: it starts after the outing or VBO file uploads, and the app shows progress until the session is ready.
